Travel List Essentials: What I Pack For Every Trip, No Matter Where I’m Going
Every time I post a travel carousel, the questions come in almost immediately. What should I pack? How do I not overpack? What actually works across different climates and itineraries? So I decided to put it all in one place, properly: the exact pieces I bring on every single trip I take, no matter the destination.
This isn’t a “pack everything just in case” list. It’s the opposite. These are the pieces that earn their place in my suitcase because each one works across multiple days, multiple settings, and multiple outfits. If you master this list, you’ll never overpack again, and you’ll never arrive somewhere without the right thing to wear either.
The Blazer
White or black, sleeveless, three-quarter sleeve, or long sleeve, doesn’t matter. What matters is that you bring one. A blazer instantly elevates whatever you’re wearing underneath it, turns a plane outfit into an arrival-ready look, and works for dinner, meetings, or a spontaneous night out. If I had to save one item from my suitcase, this would be it.
A Pair of Shorts
White, black, or denim. Simple, breathable, and endlessly versatile for daytime activity in warmer destinations. Pair them with a tank, a shirt tied at the waist, or under an oversized blazer for a look that goes from beach to lunch without missing a beat.
Leggings or Joggers
The jean substitute your body and your suitcase will thank you for. Jeans are heavy, don’t breathe well, and take up more room than they’re worth. Leggings and joggers move with you, pack flat, and work just as well for a travel day as they do for a casual dinner.
A Black Tank Top
Wear it under a blazer, alone with the shorts, or layered under something sheer. A good black tank top disappears into every single outfit on this list and works overtime doing it.
A Pyjama Set
This one surprises people, but a well-chosen pyjama set can double as loungewear or even a light dinner outfit on a relaxed evening. Choose one in a fabric and colour that doesn’t scream “sleepwear” and you’ve quietly packed two outfits in one.
Two T-Shirts
Keep one plain and simple, and let the other carry a little design detail, an interesting neckline, a subtle logo, some texture. The plain one is your blank canvas. The detailed one does the styling work for you on days you want to put in less effort.
A Dress In A Solid Colour
Black, white, nude, orange, whatever shade suits you, but keep it solid. A solid colour dress photographs beautifully in any location, pairs with any accessory colour you bring, and works for dinner, a day out, or a spontaneous photo moment. Prints are lovely, but a solid dress is the one that never clashes with anything else in your suitcase.
An Oversized Scarf or Sweater
This is your temperature control and your styling piece in one. Cold flight, cool evening, unexpected breeze, an oversized scarf or sweater solves it instantly, and it doubles as a styling layer over almost every other item on this list.
Sunglasses
The fastest way to look pulled together before you’ve done anything else. Non-negotiable, and honestly one of the lightest, easiest things to pack.
Strappy Sandals or Heels
Black, gold, or silver, pick the one that goes with everything you’ve already packed. This is your one dressed-up shoe option, so make sure it’s the one you’ll actually want to wear more than once.
Sneakers
Fashion or workout, your call, but bring one pair for the days that call for walking, exploring, or simply comfort over style.
Two Small Clutches
One should be a crossbody so your hands stay free for the actual trip, the other can be a little more special for evenings. Two bags cover almost every scenario your trip will throw at you.
The Real Secret
You can always pack more. But these are the pieces I guarantee will make your travel style effortless, because every single one works with at least three others on this list. That’s the actual formula, not more clothes, just clothes that work harder for you.
I have these on every single trip I take. Try building your next suitcase around this list and see how much lighter, and how much more put together, your travel style feels.
